Exterior Painting in Baldwin City, KS
The owner of this house had seen the Absolute Painting signs in town, and asked us to come out and give his home a little TLC. Because this home was built before 1978, we followed the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's Renovation, Repair, and Painting rules; we put up lead hazard caution tape around the perimeter of the work area, and we captured the paint chips that we scraped off of the house with heavy plastic and disposed of it according to the RRP rules.
After a low pressure rinse to remove the surface dirt, we scraped the old peeling paint and primed the resulting bare wood with a penetrating oil-base primer to ensure proper adhesion of the new paint. To help mitigate the rough appearance that often results from scraping older homes like this one, we applied a coat of Sherwin Williams' Prime Rx heavy duty bonding primer-the thickness of this clear coating helps reduce the visibility of where the old has been scraped off and where it is still intact.
After doing some spot repairs with an elastomeric caulk and some minor carpentry, we applied 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Super Paint to the house, as well as a matching outbuilding. We then topped it all off with a solid color deck stain on the wooden front porch. This home will look great for years to come!
