Absolute Painting has been the preferred service provider for a variety of essential interior and exterior painting related services.

Hi, this is Mike with Absolute Painting. I want to talk to you today about how to inspect the paint job on the exterior of your home. There’s three simple things you want to pay attention to when you’re inspecting your house to see if it’s time to get your house repainted.

Number One

Number one, your windows and your doors. Pay attention to the trim around the windows and the doors. Is the caulking cracked? Is there any wood rot? Check the windowsills. Is there any rotting there, is there any paint peeling? That’s the first thing.

Number Two

Second thing, check your fascia boards. This is the piece of trim that’s at the very top of your house. Check it for any wood rot, peeling paint. Check behind the gutters. A lot of time paint can be damaged because water runs behind the gutters, causing peeling and eventually wood rot.

Number Three

The third thing you want to check is check down low towards the bottom of the house, especially areas where a board has been cut and placed on the house, such as corner boards. You want to check the bottoms of these boards, because a lot of times the board has been cut but not properly sealed, allowing moisture to wick into the wood, eventually causing it to become soft and eventually rot.

Generalized Check

Also, do a generalized check of your entire house. Is it peeling? If it’s peeling, then it’s time to get a paint job done. Is it fading? If it’s fading it may not mean that you have to get it painted, but if it looks bad then it’s probably time.

Paint Chalking?

Finally, is your paint chalking? Chalking is an indicator that inexpensive paint was used to paint your house the last time and that the chalking is a residue of the paint breaking down.

If any of these things are happening, you need to repaint your home. If you don’t, eventually water is going to damage the exterior of your house and you’re going to have a lot more expensive repairs. If you don’t want to paint the exterior of your home yourself, give Absolute Painting a call. We’d be happy to come out and give you an on-the-spot estimate, exactly detailing how much it would cost to get your home painted.

Remember, inspect your home every year, preferably in the spring after the wintertime. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call. Until next time, this is Mike with Absolute Painting. Have a great day.
