Hi. This is Mike with Absolute Painting. I want to talk to you today about how to care for the interior paint job on your house, specifically, your walls. Have you ever seen around light switches, after a while, the paint tends to look dirty and sometimes even worn? This is because people are touching the wall instead of just the light switch. You’ll see this going up and down stairs, and in and out of doorways, around trash cans, and areas like that.
The first thing
The first thing you want to determine is what sheen of paint is on the wall. If it’s a flat sheen, you’re going to have limited ability in cleaning it. Most likely, it will require touch-up with your existing paint, but if you do have an eggshell paint, the nice thing is to be able to wash it.
What you can do is take a mild detergent and a soft sponge and lightly cleanse the area. Use a circular motion, and then make sure that you use a sponge that just has water to rinse it. As long as you don’t go too heavy or too hard, most of that dirt should come off of the wall. Once it dries, it’ll look new again.
Another thing
Another thing to remember is to keep the furniture off of the walls. For example, if you have a couch, and the back of it rubs against the wall, eventually it’s going to damage your paint job. What you can actually do is take a very small block of wood, put it behind the legs of the couch, and the couch will push up against the blocks on the floor and not touch the actual wall.
If you do those things,
